Resident Leader spotlight | Meet Rohan

Rohan is one of International House Darwin’s (IHD) newest Resident Leaders (RL’s). RL’s are the go-to people for our residents, a key point of contact in the community who can help our residents when they’re in an after-hour bind or if they’re up for fun at our social events.

Each of our RL’s are carefully selected and receive professional training and development. Our RL’s develop leadership and communication skills, skills that benefit them in whatever their future endeavours.

Rohan is originally from Pakistan. He has been living at IHD since 2021 and is currently studying a Bachelor of Information Technology.

For the last two years Rohan has been awarded the IHD Certificate of Commendation for Community Spirit. He’s been recognised for this award because of the way he contributes to the IHD community and for the way he engages with residents.

We thought it would be timely to find out what advice he would offer new residents.

Make the most of the time you have in IHD, get involved in the community.

Rohan suggests residents should make the most of the social events that are hosted at IHD.

“Join our IHD events, spend time with other residents and make friends.’’

“My pro tip would be to join in the pool parties, sports and game events.”

He says these events can be a great opportunity to connect with likeminded people. It’s a great way to take time off your busy study schedules.

Beautiful tourist locations are at your doorstep

When it comes to exploring the Northern Territory, Rohan’s favourite place to visit is Litchfield and his favourite swim spot is the Buley Rockhole.

Living in Northern Territory has given Rohan an appreciation of the power of nature

“I was born and raised on a small farm and never had a chance to see nature, beauty and have outback adventures.”

“Darwin has a mixture of everything it has hot weather, rainy days, the best sunsets.”

Besides being an RL, Rohan has a few things he would like to tick off his Darwin bucket list.

One is to learn how to fish, the other is to see crocodiles up close and experience Crocosaurus Cove’s  Cage of Death.
