How to apply and fees
IHD has a range of rooms, fees and contract lengths to suit your needs. Make sure you check out the Rooms and Rates page before you start your application. Availability is limited during semester time, so advanced bookings are recommended.

- Assessment criteria

Applicants are required to meet and continue to comply with the following criteria:
- Maintaining good academic standing and course progression with a minimum enrolment of two internal units per semester at CDU or a partner institution;
- Ability to assimilate harmoniously in a multicultural community environment;
- Willingness to participate and be involved in the residential community at IHD;
- Compliance with the University Residences Code of Conduct, the Charles Darwin University (Student Residences) By-laws, the Charles Darwin University Student Residences Misconduct Procedures, IHD Resident Handbook, Long-term Terms and Conditions of Residency, Short-term Terms and Conditions of Residency and all other relevant governing documents of the University; and
- Ability to pay a four-week bond and maintain an ongoing financial commitment.
Where residents reside at IHD on the basis that they are a committed couple, at least one member of the partnership must meet the above enrolment requirement. Failure to remain enrolled will jeopardise the residency of both members of the couple. Both members of the couple must also adhere to conditions one through four above.
Applicants may be required to prove their suitability to be housed at IHD and this may include an interview.
All applicants must be 18 years or older at the time of residence unless prior approval is granted by management. To apply for underage residence please complete the parental consent form.
Contract Dates
IHD offers cheaper accommodation for residents who make the commitment to book for a full academic year. These contract dates and fees are fixed.
Accommodation contract dates are fixed and include orientation as a minimum:
- Long-term contract: 17 February - 9 November 2020
- Semester 2, 2019 contract: 6 July - 9 November 2020
Only students studying for one semester will be permitted to apply for a single semester contract. Single semester applicants will need to justify this in the special requirements area located in the 'Confirm Completion of Application' section when applying or via email to the IHD Office. Each request will be reviewed on a case by case basis.

Staff stays
Guest apartments are available at IHD for visiting CDU staff and guests of CDU, or staff of partner organisations. The accommodation is not intended for regular student use but may be used by parents visiting students residing at IHD.

Student stays
Standard Rooms are available to all short-term students undertaking study trips, research or trade school. This is a standard size room in a two or three-storey building with access via an external corridor and fitted with a king single bed. You will have access to a communal bathroom and kitchen. Communal areas are cleaned and maintained by staff.
